DIY Tutorial – The Grim Cup

March 24th, 2013

My friend Danielle told me about this really cute DIY tutorial. This is a quick and easy tutorial in making The Grim tea leaves from the Harry Potter and Prisoner of Azkaban.

The Grim DIY

Materials Needed

Porcelain Cups – I bought two mugs for $1.75 each at Walmart. You can probably find similar tea cups like the one in the movie at a Goodwill or another thrift store. Personally, I prefer to drink out of cups so that’s why I chose those.

Sharpie – I used an Ultra Fine Point Sharpie so I wouldn’t make thick marks and smear the lines. If you happen to have a brown one too it will compliment the look of being real tea leaves.

Steps

1. Step One: Make sure you wash your cups before you start marking on it. You don’t want any sort of oils on them. Now, use your sharpie and slowly start making little dots to form the grim. I think it was best to look at a photo reference to follow by, so I provided one for you!

2. Step Two. Once you are satisfied with your grim drawing, you will need to bake your mug so the image will stay permanent. Bake your cup for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees. After it cools down then you will be able to wash the cup.

3. Step Three. Enjoy freaking out your friends once you are finished with your beverage and scary them with the grim image at the bottom of your cup!

Enjoy!
